Gary Montesinos reviews TO FEED THE ROSES at the American Theatre of Actors
I just finished watching a very interesting play, called To Feed the Roses by Amy Losi, that touched my heart on several real-life issues. The play was about 2 strangers, a man and a woman, going to audition for a part in a play. From the onset, the two characters had an attraction towards each other, and they both got the part in the play.

The play started with a light comedic touch but then quickly touched on some very real-life issues, such as divorce, death, suicide and the loss of a loved one which truly moved me to tears. This hit me especially hard when one of the characters recounted that he lost his wife in a hit and run, only to later admit that the real cause of death was that his wife ran out into traffic to commit suicide. This brought tears to my eyes because I was able to see his pain and guilt written on his face.

This immediately made me get present to my recent divorce, and how hard it is to lose a loved one. Surprising, this play allowed me to reflect on how precious life is, and how it should never be taken from granted.
I would highly recommend this play because it gives a surprising perspective on how we can be more sensitive to the past issues of the people we care about, as each person has his/her own past issues to contend with. The play leaves the audience with an understanding of how vital empathy can be, when accepting others into our lives even with whatever baggage they carry.
