Pull on those leg warmers and head to The Emelin Theater in November to see Choices: A Rock Opera! Do you miss those hair bands from the 80’s. Well come on over to Westchester and wax nostalgic. In the show, Ace is the lead singer of a rock band called Choices. His intense drive and focus have brought the band great success but has left Ace emotionally underdeveloped and lacking any life experience beyond the stage. Enter a mysterious and intriguing woman leaving Ace to make some difficult “choices”.
Meet Hailie Lucille who plays the girlfriend. She is a member of a Jazz trio called The Satin Dollz. Hailie has been seen in Mamma Mia, Les Miserables, Anything Goes and many other popular shows. Most recently she was rocking and rolling as a performer on the high seas on Norwegian Cruise Lines. It was wonderful to chat with her about this show and her life as an artist.
Hailie likes to provide the audience with an authentic theatrical experience. She achieves this by making her characters human and relatable. “I love to convey stories through music that audience members can relate to and hopefully learn something from. I’m order to do that I think the characters need to be as human and connected as possible, so I like to find the similarities between myself and the character, then build the show from there.”
Being that this is an 80’s musical we wanted to know what the 80’s meant to the cast whether they lived through it or not. “I love 80’s music. I wasn’t alive during that decade but grew up listening to a lot of that music (mostly Santana) because of my dad.”
Hailie would like the audience to enjoy and possibly learn something from the show. “I hope that audience members can enjoy the music, have some giggles, and take away the lesson of the power of our decisions.”
Being in Choices is definitely a positive experience for Hailie. “I have had a blast creating something from the ground up with a group of very dedicated and talented individuals. We have a lot of fun, and I think audiences will too!”
After Hailie rocks out she will be jazzing up New York City during its most festive season. “I’ll be performing all around NYC with a jazz trio group over the holidays.”
