Acclaimed emerging playwright Doug DeVita returns to the Fresh Fruit Festival Mainstage this week! This year, Doug is presenting a bold, warped comedy reflecting his thoughts on human behavior in the modern age. Goddess of the Hunt, a modern reimagination of the myth of Diana the Huntress, is set to premiere on the Fresh Fruit Festival Main Stage this May!
This gripping thriller promises to be a highlight of the festival, featuring seasoned talents such as Broadway’s Kevin Ligon, Mary Powelson as Diana; with Benjamin I. Cardona, Robert-Louis Maisonett, and David L. Carson. In combination with this stellar cast, DeVita is working alongside Director Rosie Corr, a passionate and experienced director coming hot off of her recent position as assistant director of the Broadway musical, Harmony.
“Goddess of the Hunt” follows a grieving Charlie Windsor, played by Kevin Ligon, who crosses paths with the gregarious Diana Black-White, portrayed by Mary Powelson. Their instant connection sets off a chain of events relating to wealth, friendship, loyalty, family, and, of course, social media.
Charlie’s friendship with Diana raises eyebrows, particularly among his longtime friend Ed. As secrets unravel and loyalties are tested, the lines between reality and imagination blur, leading to a thrilling climax that will leave audiences both laughing and gasping for breath.
DeVita infuses this story with an homage to the master of suspense, Alfred Hitchcock. When asked if audiences are ready for a play like this one, he responded “If we’re not, it’s about time we are!”
The Fresh Fruits Festival, an All Out Arts Production, is a new works festival dedicated to uplifting the creativity, diversity, and talent of the LGBTQ community. Doug shared with us that he thinks the Fresh Fruit Festival is “a great, supportive atmosphere, and a joy to work with; they are an artistic home for me.” And no wonder why! DeVita is a three-time Fresh Fruit Festival Award Winner, in addition to his already impressive showcase of awards.
