Modern Classic opens “The Revolutionists.” Review by Tammy Green

Here’s your chance to spend an enjoyable evening with four (in)famous women in “The Revolutionists” performed by Modern Classics Theatre at the BACCA Arts Center in Lindenhurst. The cast delivers a heady mix of comedy and drama with rousing repartee and words that resonate through the ages. The play is set in Paris in 1793, a busy year for the guillotine during the Reign of Terror and (spoiler alert!) the year three of these ladies met their doom.

Jes Almeida is a playful, earnest and, ultimately, brave Olympe DeGouges. Karen Griffith Gordon as Marianne Angeles, makes a notable MCT debut, emanating great warmth throughout her passionate and fiery performance. The eye-catching Charlotte Corday (Rosie Colette) is archly funny and a dab hand with a kitchen knife, punctuating her lines to comic effect. Julie Lorson brings many laughs as a surprisingly funny and engaging Marie Antoinette.

You can catch this Modern Classics Theatre show March 7,8,13,14,15,21 and 22; at BACCA Arts Center, 149 North Wellwood Avenue, Lindenhurst, NY 11757, 516-236-5838.
