Beyond Therapy @ Modern Classics: A Review by Andrew Herzman
Venue: Modern Classic Theatre, Lindenhurst, NY Company/Production: BACCA Date seen: July 11, 2026 Running time: 2 hours Rating: ★★★★☆
An adult comedy that some people can relate to.
1. Writing/Script
The plot/structure was well done, with a good flow of one scene into the next. The pacing was also well done, with each scene not being too long in order to not lose the attention of the audience. The dialogue quality was fantastic, with loud and clear voices as well as the actors knowing their lines. There were no noticeable stutters.
2. Direction
The blocking and use of stage space was impressive considering the size of the venue.
3. Acting/Performances
The lead performances were engaging. There was real character development which gradually helped the audience care about the characters. The supporting cast was a great supplement to the main actors, which also kept the pacing and story moving smoothly The chemistry between the characters was smooth and not awkward.
4. Design Elements
The set design was simple, yet had enough detail to make it believable. The costumes were not too lavish and felt natural for the characters. The lighting was very simple, but affective enough to highlight each scene’s location. The props like the phones and gun were believable enough for the scenes.
5. Technical Execution
The scene transitions were short and filled by recorded music, which didn’t slow down the pacing of the show as a whole.
6. Audience Experience
The venue seating was not assigned, but there was not a bad seat in the house. The three rows of chairs provided both intimacy and comfort.
Verdict
This was a nice fun show for an evening out. It was a good alternative to watching a movie at home. Considering the fact that it was “community theatre”, it still was worth the money and had enough entertainment value to feel satisfied at the end of the show.
